Move less
Sell, donate or bin what you do not want in the next house. A loft of unused furniture is often the most expensive part of a house move, because it takes time and van space. Do that sort before you ask us to count rooms. If we quote six rooms and you empty two before the day, tell us. The quote can be revised. Do not wait until the crew arrive and hope it will not matter.
Measure large pieces you might leave behind. A sofa that will not fit the new lounge should not travel.
Be accurate and be ready
Waiting time and extra items are how a tidy quote grows. Have boxes closed, white goods empty and paths clear. Include the garage if it is going. Leaving it off and then asking us to empty it is a different job.
Photos of stairs and the largest wardrobe help us send the right crew the first time. A second visit because a piano was not mentioned costs you a delay and a new quote. Pianos are priced on their own page for that reason.
Choose a kinder date where you can
Fridays, month ends and the day before a bank holiday are when completions stack up. If your chain allows a midweek move, say so. We are not promising a lower figure for every Tuesday. We are saying the diary is less crushed, which sometimes changes what we can offer. Ask. Do not assume.
A move across Barnsley is not the same job as a drive to another part of the UK. If you can split a long-distance move from a local clear-out of rubbish, do the clear-out first so the van is not full of items you will dump at the other end.
Do the packing you are happy to do
Pack clothes, books and linen yourself in sensible boxes. Leave kitchens and glass to our packing service if you are short of time or patience. Mixing the two is fine. Label everything. A box we cannot lift will be repacked or left, and either way the day slows down.
